I don't do a lot of memes, but... Well, I need a break from my database assignment anyway. When it's just an example, they usually let us choose the names and companies and whatever other sample data we need to input, and more than once now I've inadvertently assigned Jeeves to be the president of Baby The Stars Shine Bright, a Japanese Lolita clothing line. While I have no problem with the idea of sticking Bertie in Elegant Gothic Aristocrat, I think Jeeves would beg to differ. Strenuously. Actually, come to think of it, I'm pretty sure that company only makes Sweet Lolita styles, and even I agree that's a horrifying mental image. Anyway, yes. Meme.

1. My friends all call me a werewolf because I'm allergic to most sterling silver (which is supposed to be hypoallergenic). I have a couple of silver chains and a handful of earrings that I can wear, but most of it will have me yanking it off pretty quickly. Silver is my favorite, though, so I keep trying to wear it anyway. I'm either entirely too optimistic or just none too bright.

2. My father is finishing up a book on the occult in film, so the house is liberally strewn with Satanist movies, books with titles like "Men, Women, and Chainsaws," and transcripts of his interviews with people like the High Priestess of the Temple of Set. I sincerely wish that one of those door-to-door Jehovah's witnesses would come by and ask to be invited in.

3. I like to have The Muppet Show on as background noise whenever I'm cooking. I strongly suspect that this has something to do with taking comfort in the knowledge that no matter how badly it turns out, the Swedish Chef did worse. (Also, my favorite Pigs in Space is the one where the universe is ending and the crew can't decide whether to stay and find out the meaning of life or go get dinner. XD)

4. I absolutely adore city lights at night. I made two of my friends spend the entire day hanging around the special observation deck of Tokyo Tower because I wanted to wait until it got dark enough to see the lights sprawling out below us.

5. I have terrible wanderlust. Walking, driving, subway, just so long as I'm going somewhere (or going nowhere, for that matter).

6. One of my earliest memories is of my parents taking my sister and me to see Cats - Rum Tum Tugger was prowling the aisles killing time until he had to go backstage, and he stopped and let us scratch his ears. XD It makes me sort of sad when people knock Cats.

7. I've been spoon-fed really fantastic chocolate mousse by a flirtatious waiter in a restaurant in Paris. Some days life is very, very good.

Can't...stop...laughing...

I had pretty much the entire score of Cats memorized as a child, and my first cat was named Mistoffles. People in the online fandom scare me even more than the people who knock it, but I know what you mean. On the other hand, there are at least two J&W fics where Bustopher Jones makes a cameo, and that acts as balm to a wounded inner child.

Jeeves can make the o.O face all he likes, but he ought to be grateful he got off as easily as he did. At least I was paying enough attention to make sure he was president; there were slots open for models too.

Heh. My sister kept trying to rename our cat from Brindle to Demeter for the longest time. She eventually compromised with stuffed cats named Rumpelteazer and Mr. Mistoffles.

You know, I generally don't hold any childhood memories sacred when it comes to fandom, but somehow, I can't wrap my mind around the idea of a Cats fandom. I suppose fanart and cosplay aren't too bizarre, but fic...? Come to think of it, I wonder if anyone makes Cats macros?

I'm mostly happy that there's canonical basis for it. Bertie running into Bustopher Jones and reading Sherlock Holmes reduces me to making undignified fangirl noises.

Laughing...again...too...hard...brain...injury...imminent....

I always used to insist that Mistoffles perked up when his song played, and looked fierce when "Macavity" came on. (Well, I was, like, seven.)

The sanctity of childhood fandoms is a funny thing. I discovered Wodehouse when I was 12, which seems to have been some kind of mystical line in the sand for me of "characters I can accept fic about." The very idea of Narnia pr0n elicts an instant DO NOT WANT, for example, and even the few pieces of gen I've read make me twitch uncomfortably. (I still haven't wholly forgiven Neil Gaiman for "The Problem of Susan.)

As for Cats, I gather from one of the players over at my RP that Macavity and Demeter are fanonically considered to have had an abusive romantic relationship that parallels the Phantom and Christine. I...really didn't ask for more information. And I've carefully steered clear of that part of ff.net.

I had a plotbunny once for Bertie meeting Eliot on St. James's and introducing him to Bustopher Jones while taking him to the Drones for a drink. They would, naturally, have friends in common, since Bertie knows masses of literary types, and could quite easily spend an afternoon chatting with the nice American chapppie without ever twigging to the fact that Florence Craye would need smelling salts if she saw them together. ^_^

I've read Narnia fic that I thought was pretty decent, but I don't specifically seek it out, and I have no desire to go find porn for it. Of course, I don't have a really strong emotional attachment to the Narnia books; I admire them, but I was too young when I read them for the first time, and The Last Battle freaked me out deeply. I didn't really get that everyone went to Heaven at the end; all I took away from it was that everything went wrong with the world and it was scary and then they all died. The trauma still lingers around the edges a bit.

I would probably be okay with The Problem of Susan if it had ended with the conclusion of the interview (aside from the bit where Susan is thinking about the centaur penis; that's really not somewhere I want to go), but I really try not to think about the second chunk. Ever. I generally consider myself a Gaiman fan, but the quality of his short stories varies wildly.

(Heh. I'm rather a newbie for Jeeves and Wooster, myself. I only started reading it about a year ago - year and four months, maybe? On one of my journals somewhere I have a little note to the effect of "Oh yeah, that Jeeves and Wooster thing I've been wanting to read? I finally picked up the first book today.")

Darn it, I needed that chunk of brain that just shut down. Every time I think fandom can't top itself... It's really kind of impressive when someone can be a fan of something and still somehow miss the point of canon that completely.

That is incredibly darling. XD Eliot did write the poems as gifts for friends...
